Written by Lewis Treston and Hannah Belansky
Directed by Wesley Enoch
Tight in the Bud is an anthology of short plays by playwrights Lewis Treston and Hannah Belansky, that meditates upon themes of wanderlust, yearning, and adventure with humour and pathos. This collection of plays, written specifically for the 2022 graduating actors, uses travel stories to ask about how the trappings of our environment might inhibit us from becoming the person we really are.
Directed by Wesley Enoch, Tight in the Bud takes us on a wild ride of geography and time with stories that stretch across the State, around the world and around the corner.
The piece ends as the audience and ensemble are left with an invitation to bloom.
This project instigated the collaboration between Bachelor of Fine Arts students in Acting, Drama and Technical Production, as they collaborated under the guidance of an industry director, on an industry-standard theatrical production.

I was very lucky to work as Assistant Director on this project, alongside Wesley Enoch, the brilliant Bachelor of Fine Arts Acting students and the phenomenal students from Bachelor of Fine Arts Technical Production. Throughout the project I have learned from both our industry mentor and my peers, developing my vocabulary of collaboration across the variety of disciplines.
The main focus of my role was working alongside our playwrights and director to negotiate script formatting and structure, providing an outside eye for the actor's during rehearsal and providing additional performance notes during production week and the show season. I also had the opportunity to learn from my peers in the production team, through assisting with the bump in, rigging and focusing of lights and any help I could offer to our stage management team.
I witnessed a significant Australian director's unique creative process and have taken inspiration from his way of communicating, his directing process and his ambition as I become more familiar with my own aesthetics and process as a creative.
